On April 10th CYC Taekwondo together with the Northern California Taekwondo Association put on the first post-COVID contact tournament in California. The tournament held a “poomse” competition, which is always non-contact and non-contact sparring where the two competitors faced off against kicking bags and received a score from the judges as to who performed the most effective kicks. Some competitors even took the option to actually spar with another person in competition for the first time in well over a year! The winners of this tournament will be awarded points toward the 2021 NCTA Championship Series and will be eligible for the annual awards in November.

The event was held outdoors on the CYC soccer field where there was plenty of room and fresh air for social distancing. It was a very enjoyable event for everyone who participated. The competitors and spectators alike were beyond thrilled to have CYC provide some sort of normalcy during these challenging times.
