Soccer Program Vision
The CYC Soccer Program is aimed to promote safe, fun and educational soccer to children ages 3-18.
The objective of the soccer program is to develop intelligent, intuitive and creative soccer players with the correct technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills to succeed on the pitch. The CYC Soccer Program provides age-appropriate training for the youth soccer player.
CYC Soccer is holistic in nature for all ages. At the younger age groups, emphasis is on developing well-rounded athletes through a variety of fun games and activities, both with and without the ball. As children progress in age, the training becomes more sport-specific and emphasis shifts to technical development, followed by tactical know-how. Ultimately, a child who enters the program at age 3 and leaves at age 18 will be a well-rounded athlete with a propensity for playing the game of soccer and the ability to do so at the collegiate level.
Course Structure
3-4 Age Group
Children will be introduced to the game of soccer in a very friendly and informal environment. The kids will learn to feel the ball at their feet and on their bodies through a variety of games and activities. There will be no real technical or tactical instruction, but rather this class will help children improve their coordination and proprioception with a soccer ball. This class is offered once a week for 25 minutes.
*Players must be at least 3 years old when registering.
4-5 Age Group
Children will perform many of the same skills and drills as at the Under 4 age group, but now with more technical instruction. The kids at this age will begin to gain slightly more control and awareness of their own bodies, and so will learn very basic technical skills involved in soccer. About 90% of the time, the kids will have a ball at their feet and learn to dribble and shoot through a variety of fun games and activities. This class is offered upto 3 times a week for 40 minutes.
6-7 Age Group
In this age group, children will begin to learn more advanced technical skills. They will begin to gain an understanding for different moves with the ball, as well as different types of passes and traps. The children will learn to shoot with both placement and power at this age, and will play a lot of small sided games to enhance their skills. This class can be attended up to 3 times per week for 55 minutes each.
8-9 Age Group
This age group will see kids getting their first taste of tactical play. The kids will still have a heavy focus on improved technical performance (passing, trapping, dribbling, shooting, etc.) but will also be taught to recognize “Numbers Up” situations and to expose them. Kids will learn the principles of defense at this age, again through a variety of small-sided games and activities. This class runs 3x/week for 70 minutes each.
10-12 Age Group
This age group will be the last age where more than 80% of the emphasis is on technical play. At this age, the children will refine all of their technical skills, and be put to the test of using them at “game speed”. Too, the kids will enhance their tactical knowledge by beginning to understand different formations, and attacking versus defending roles. It is at this age the concept of “the midfield” and “offsides” will be introduced. These concepts will be introduced through a variety of small sided games and activities, as well as the occasional “full side” squad practice. This class runs 2x/week for 85 minutes each.
13+ Age Group
This age group will have a shift from technical development to more tactical awareness. The shift will divide the training sessions to about 50% tactical and 50% technical. At this age, the kids will be introduced to a variety of factors that influence a game – numbers up and numbers down situations, goal differential, formations, etc. These concepts will be introduced through a variety of drills, and will conclude with small sided and sometimes full-sided games that utilize the topics of the day’s practice session.
